Questions from Becontree
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chadwell Heath station?
Yes. We cover all of Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Becontree?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
What are the kitchen cabinets made of?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
Do you do the plumbing and electrics?
No. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.
Bespoke kitchens in Becontree: what you get
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. If you are living with room for everything in the kitchen and cabinets built around the appliances you choose, that’s what kitchens are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Becontree, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Gas work is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

How fitting day works
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- First, you tell us about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
- We visit, measure and discuss the layout, larder, dresser or island.
- You receive a quote in writing.
- Everything is built in our workshop.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.
Before fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

What affects the price in Becontree
There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:
- The number of doors and drawers
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How big the furniture is
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote.
What to send when you get in touch
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, use our contact form.
When is bespoke worth it?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Before and after fitting day
Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Make sure an island will not crowd the room
- Make a note of what you use every day
Follow the appliance makers’ guidance for your oven, hob and dishwasher, and the care advice for your worktop.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. We cannot advise on your lease.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Becontree
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Becontree were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 76%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Becontree include Church of St Mary (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If you live on or close to a main road in Becontree, let us know at the measuring visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
If you live in a flat close to Chadwell Heath station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For an older house near St George's, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. Close to Parsloes Park? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.
