Bespoke kitchens in Waltham Forest: what you get
A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. Each dresser is made for its wall, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. If your home has more storage in a small kitchen and a central island in a larger kitchen, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Around Waltham Forest, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Other trades do the gas, plumbing and electrics.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working.
- We come to measure up and plan the layout with you.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas. We do not arrange those trades, so it is useful to book them early.
Preparing the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Waltham Forest
About 39% of the homes in the streets around Waltham Forest went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 23% before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Waltham Forest, Historic England’s list includes Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and Church of St John the Baptist (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south-east. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 39% of homes in the neighbourhood around Waltham Forest date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Interwar houses often started with a small kitchen that has since been extended or opened up, so the cabinets are made for today’s layout.
If you live near Linder's Field, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. For a family home near Normanhurst School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Waltham Forest
Uneven walls and floors make standard kitchens hard to fit. Gaps and wavy lines are hard to hide, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- A kitchen that fits an uneven room
- Room for everything in the kitchen
- A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
- A kitchen island with room around it
If your home is one of the older houses near St John the Baptist Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
What to check before you book
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. We can build them to fit, with the same finish as the cabinets. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.

Flats, conversions and lettings
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.
Questions from Waltham Forest
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Waltham Forest?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Waltham Forest?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It’s useful to choose them before the design is final, and the quote confirms what’s included.
What materials do you use for kitchens?
MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for drawer boxes and shelves. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.
Looking after your furniture
People planning bespoke kitchens often ask about these. They help before and after fitting:
- Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
- Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
- Measure the route into the kitchen
- Talk to your other trades in good time
Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners. In time, mild soapy water and a soft cloth keep them clean.
Measure the route into the kitchen as well as the room. We make the cabinets in sections that fit through the doors and up the stairs, so let us know about any narrow spots.
