Woodford Wells Bespoke Kitchens

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Woodford Wells starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

What we don’t do

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • Structural changes to the room
  • New sockets or circuits

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Bespoke kitchens in Woodford Wells: what you get

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you’ve chosen, so everything fits as it should. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and a central island in a larger kitchen.

An island needs space around it to work, and not every kitchen has that. Interwar, semi-detached and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Woodford Wells, and some of those kitchens have been opened up enough to take one. We check the clearances at the design visit, along with where water and power would need to reach. Services to an island are for your plumber and electrician.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the kitchen we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Woodford Wells

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 40% of the housing in the streets around Woodford Wells, with about 28% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Woodford Wells. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. About 49% of households in the neighbourhood around Woodford Wells live in detached or semi-detached houses, the 2021 Census shows. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

Close to The Highams Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of All Saints', original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live in a flat close to Highams Park station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Woodford Wells is in the London Borough of Redbridge, about 1 mile south of Woodford. From period terraces to newer flats in Woodford Wells, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We list Woodford Wells among 18 places we cover in Redbridge.

Every address in IG8 and IG9 is covered for bespoke kitchens, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Bush Road, Park Avenue and Sydney Road, along with the roads around them, for bespoke kitchens and any of our other fitted furniture. Woodford Wells is near the A121; on busy main roads, unloading kitchens takes a little planning. Is bespoke worth it?

There’s a place for both. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. For period homes, awkward rooms or a painted look, bespoke tends to earn its place. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

What happens on fitting day

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about the room and how you use it. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Getting a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Looking after your furniture

Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Let us know how parking works on your street

If a hand-painted door gets a chip, it can be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that wipes clean. It is worth keeping a record of the colours used.

Talk to your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer early. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, and it is easier when everyone works from the same design.

What affects the price in Woodford Wells

There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How square the room is
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How many doors and drawers there are

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Woodford Wells?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London, and Woodford Wells is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Woodford Wells?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Will you connect the sink and appliances?

No. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around their work.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

If there is enough room, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we measure for it during the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.

What happens at the design visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
