Bespoke kitchens for your home in Monkhams

About our bespoke kitchens in Monkhams

Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Monkhams and all over London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, then a written quote. Once agreed, the kitchen is built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you can plan around it. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a larder for food and small appliances and open shelves with cupboards below.

Knocked-through kitchen-diners in older semis sometimes keep a chimney breast, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. Around Monkhams, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the design can make the most of it. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

Touching up or repainting is straightforward with a hand-painted finish.

Spray-painted finish

With a spray finish, the painting is done in the workshop, which keeps work in your home to fitting.

When you need someone else

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:

  • Building work, such as removing walls
  • Making good walls and ceilings

Kitchens in Monkhams: local notes

In the streets around Monkhams, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 31%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Part of Monkhams is in the Woodford Wells Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Redbridge sets its own rules. Where a street in Monkhams is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Tell us what the parking is like during the design visit.

For a family home near Wells Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. Living in a block of flats near Highams Park station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Monkhams is within the London Borough of Redbridge, about 1 mile south of Woodford. From period terraces to newer flats in Monkhams, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our work takes in places right across Redbridge.

Here we cover the IG8, IG9 and E4 postcode area for bespoke kitchens. Streets in the area include Oak Lane, Wood Lane and Mill Lane, and we cover homes on all of them for bespoke kitchens. The A121 runs close to Monkhams; on busy main roads, unloading kitchens takes a little planning. We also cover Woodford Wells (1 mile east), Friday Hill (1 mile west), Woodford (1 mile south), Chingford Hatch (1 mile west) and Waltham Forest (1 mile north). Other parts of Redbridge we cover include Ilford (4 miles south-east), Loxford (5 miles south-east), Wanstead (3 miles south), South Woodford (2 miles south), Newbury Park (4 miles south-east) and Gants Hill (3 miles south-east).

What happens on fitting day

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. To begin, message us from the contact page; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Before fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Related advice

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Monkhams?

A common reason is a room that ready-made units don’t fit. Off-the-shelf cabinets come in set widths, leaving gaps at the ends and above. A bespoke kitchen is made to the room instead.

People typically get in touch with us about things like these:

  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room

If you live near The Highams Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Flats, leases and landlords

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Questions from Monkhams

Is parking a problem for fitting in Monkhams?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Monkhams?

Yes. Monkhams is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Redbridge and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

It is made in sections, sized for the route along with the room itself. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
