About our bespoke kitchens in Holloway Down

We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. If you are living with a dresser that suits a period house and cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

In a period terrace, the front door, hall and any turn into the kitchen limit the size of each piece. Around Holloway Down, a large share of homes were built before 1919, so we measure the route to the kitchen as well as the room. Long runs are made in sections and joined on site, with the joins placed where they won’t show.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Holloway Down

About 53% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Holloway Down went up before 1919, and about 25% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Holloway Down. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Holloway Down. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.

Close to West Ham Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Sutton House, about 2.4 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Holloway Down is within the London Borough of Waltham Forest, about 3 miles north-west of Walthamstow. From period terraces to newer flats in Holloway Down, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Across Waltham Forest, we cover Holloway Down.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Holloway Down

The price for your room depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How many doors and drawers there are

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Before the design visit

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • How you want to use the space
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Holloway Down

Many people come to us because a standard kitchen does not suit their room. Off-the-shelf cabinets come in set widths, and the gaps get filled with panels. A bespoke kitchen is made to the room instead.

Bespoke kitchens can help with:

  • More storage in a small kitchen
  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
  • A kitchen island with room around it
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Fetter Lane Congregational Chapel, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Choosing a carpenter

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

Looking after your furniture

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
  • Talk to your other trades in good time

We adjust the doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

Measure the route into the kitchen along with the room itself. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so tell us about tight turns or small lifts.

Questions from Holloway Down

Is Holloway Down in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, Holloway Down is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Waltham Forest and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do you cover homes near Maryland station?

Yes, homes across Waltham Forest and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

What are your kitchens made from?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?

Yes, it is something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

It is made in sections. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the design visit.

Fitting day, step by step

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
