Fitted cupboards for homes in Chelsea Harbour
Hallways in London homes are often long and narrow, so every cupboard needs to be worth the room it takes. A shallow cupboard can hold coats, shoes and bags without blocking the way, with hooks, a rail or shelves inside. A bench with a lift-up lid or drawers under it is another option, so there is somewhere to sit by the door. We make fitted cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes and tidying away the gas and electricity meters.
Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Chelsea Harbour, and many blocks have rules on lift booking, deliveries and working hours. Checking with the managing agent early makes the day smoother. A lease can require consent for fixing to walls, so check yours first.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Fitted cupboards in Chelsea Harbour: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Chelsea Harbour were built before 1919 (about 36%) and since 2000 (about 28%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 17 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Chelsea Harbour. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Hammersmith and Fulham included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Chelsea Harbour is covered by it. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.
If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Church, fitted cupboards can fill recesses that are rarely a standard size. If your children go to Chelsea Academy or a school nearby, fitted cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. Carlyle's House, about 0.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size.
Chelsea Harbour is about 1 mile west of Fulham, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Anywhere in Chelsea Harbour, it works the same way: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture made at our workshop and fitting in your home. Our Hammersmith and Fulham coverage includes Chelsea Harbour.
Every home in SW6, SW11 and SW10 is within our area for fitted cupboards, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Pricing fitted cupboards in Chelsea Harbour
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How big the furniture is
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The internal fittings
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Getting in touch
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Where you live, with the postcode
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Approximate measurements of the space
We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
How fitting works for fitted cupboards
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat does not fill up. Floors are covered and dust is kept down. Fixings are chosen for each wall, solid or plasterboard.

Advice
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Common questions about fitted cupboards
Do you cover homes near Imperial Wharf station?
Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Chelsea Harbour?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
How much does a fitted cupboard cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A small boiler cupboard and a full run of hallway storage are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.
How it is made
Plinths and scribe strips
We use a plinth to set the cupboard level on an uneven floor. Scribe strips are trimmed to follow the wall.
Doors and drawer fronts
For meter cupboards, the doors or panels are designed for easy access, so engineers can reach what’s inside.
