Fitted wardrobes in SW6: how it works
Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about wasted space beside the chimney breast and no space in front for doors to swing.
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.
- You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
- We come to measure and talk through the design, including the doors and the finish.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
Quotes in SW6
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.
Why work with us
- Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- 300+ projects completed
- A design visit, then a written quote
Getting a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.

Homes across SW6 and their bedrooms
Homes across SW6, Fulham, Parsons Green and Walham Green among them, often have one bedroom that has to do two jobs. The design can help one room work two ways, keeping clothes, bedding and everything else out of sight.
In the SW6 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 58%) and the years since 2000 (about 16%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. More than half of the homes in SW6 (about 58%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that aren’t straight. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 24% of households in the SW6 postcode district, based on Census 2021. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
Homes across SW6 range from period terraces to modern blocks, and we work in all of them. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.
Fulham: If your home is one of the older houses near St. Peter's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If your children go to St Johns Walham Green Church of England Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
How we price fitted wardrobes
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- How square the room is
- Parking near your home
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How big the furniture is
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
Helping us understand the room
Some details help us understand the job before we visit. It is useful to include:
- Examples of the look you are after
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. A sloping ceiling, a chimney breast, a low window or a door in the wrong place can defeat standard furniture. We shape fitted wardrobes around those features.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Not enough hanging space
Flats, conversions and lettings
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
When you need someone else
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
Could you do it yourself?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in SW6
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
We plan it with you at the measuring visit, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
How do I get a quote?
Just use our contact form. It’s useful to send rough sizes and a few photos, and we will arrange a design visit.
Which boards do you build with?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF gives a smooth, stable surface for paint; birch plywood is strong and good for shelves and drawer boxes.
What if my bedroom floor is not level?
It’s common, and it is allowed for. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. Our work is in London only: every London borough and the City of London.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, using moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
