About fitted wardrobes in SW10
Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a bedroom that never feels tidy and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall.
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
- You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish, ready for you to read through.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
- We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.
What goes into your quote
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Fitted wardrobes across SW10: local notes
Homes across SW10, Chelsea, South Kensington and Parsons Green included, have bedrooms with every kind of quirk. Fitted wardrobes are scribed to the walls and levelled on site. You choose the colour and whether it’s spray-painted or hand-painted.
Homes built before 1919 make up about 58% of the housing in SW10, with about 15% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 58% of homes in SW10 were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that are not straight. About 22% of households in the SW10 postcode district live in flats in converted or shared houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, SW10 included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.
World's End: The wider area includes historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 0.5 miles east. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For a family home near Ashburnham Community School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
Flats, conversions and lettings
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
Materials and finishes
Hanging rails
Rails are placed so the top one is within easy reach without a step. Higher space above can hold shelves for things you use less.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front, depending on the look you prefer. Inside drawers keep the front simple.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Where they’ll park and unload
Tips worth knowing
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
- Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall beforehand
Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays, as they can dull the paint.
Keep any ventilation gaps clear, especially where the wardrobe meets an outside wall. Watch for musty smells or marks on clothes.
What prompts fitted wardrobes
After a loft conversion, the new bedroom typically needs storage that suits the slopes. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste, leaving the floor open.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
- Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we plan airflow behind and within it.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how awkward the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
What if my bedroom floor is not level?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the doors hang true.
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense. We look at it with you when we measure.
Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?
We plan the sections around the route into your flat, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Tell us if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.
