Fitted cupboards for homes in North End

We make our cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, chosen for the job each part does. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits shelves and drawer boxes. The finish is either spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. If your home has cupboards for a utility or boot room and a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes, fitted cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Outside walls in houses from before 1919 are usually solid brick, which can be cold, so storage against it is designed with ventilation behind. That matters around North End, where a large share of the homes are that old. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Why bespoke in North End?

A flat-pack or ready-made cupboard is quick to buy and often cheaper, and in a square room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely sit flush. A fitted cupboard is a bigger outlay, but it fits the space it is built for. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Built-in pieces can run to the cornice or the picture rail.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in North End

Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in North End?

Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London, and North End is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

How long will the cupboards take to fit?

It depends on the job. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you’ll know before we start.

What are the cupboards made of?

MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for shelves and drawer boxes. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in the colour agreed with you.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How are fitted cupboards priced?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

What prompts fitted cupboards in North End

Alcoves and odd corners are another reason. A recess beside a chimney breast, a gap at the end of a corridor or the space over a stair can all hold a cupboard that fits it exactly.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • A cupboard for the meters with easy access
  • Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags
  • Built-in storage that matches the woodwork
  • Space for laundry, cleaning things and boots

For an older house near St. Andrew's Fulham Fields, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size.

  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Making use of tricky spaces in North End

About 68% of the homes in the area around North End went up before 1919, and about 11% between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. North End is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home in North End is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

Close to Gwendwr Garden? Fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Cuthbert and St Matthias, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Pricing fitted cupboards in North End

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.

What to send when you contact us

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll usually ask about:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, get in touch through our contact form and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

What happens on fitting day

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. First, you tell us about the room and what it needs. A rough sketch helps if you have one.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through doors, shelves and rails, with a note of anything that must stay reachable.
  3. A written quote is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are made at our workshop.
  5. The cupboards are fitted in your home. They’re set level and scribed to the walls as they go in.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

How to get a quote

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Advice

Flats, leases and landlords

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.
