About our fitted cupboards in Orpington

We fit fitted cupboards in Orpington and across London. We begin with a design visit to measure and go through the design, and then send you a quote. Once agreed, we make the cupboards in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Typical reasons to get in touch are tidying away the gas and electricity meters and built-in storage that matches the woodwork, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Around Orpington, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bays at the front suit a seat with storage below, with a grille where there’s a radiator underneath. Fitted cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Fitted cupboards in Orpington: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 39% of the housing in the area around Orpington, with about 31% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Within a mile of the centre of Orpington, 5 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If you live near Jubilee Country Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is one of the older houses near St Andrew's, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. If you live in a flat close to St Mary Cray station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

What we do not do

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Plastering, decorating or repairs to the walls
  • Any gas work around the boiler
  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Ventilated doors
  • Adjustable shelves
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Fitting day, step by step

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. First, you tell us about the space and what you need to store. It might be a hallway, a landing, a utility or a boot room.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and talk through doors, shelves and rails. For a boiler cupboard, we plan for the clearances and ventilation in the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. Everything is built and finished in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cupboards in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Ask for a quote

To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a written quote follows.

Advice

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

Birch plywood suits carcasses that carry a lot of weight, such as a linen or utility cupboard.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF gives a smooth surface for a painted finish, and the moisture-resistant grade copes with damper spots.

Flats, leases and landlords

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Looking after your furniture

None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Deal with any damp walls first
  • Leaseholders: check your lease first
  • Check stairs, landings and doorways for access

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Timber and walls shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even. If a door catches, it is typically a small hinge adjustment.

At the design visit, let us know how parking and access work. Much of London has controlled parking, and blocks of flats can have rules about lifts and deliveries.

Questions from Orpington

Is Orpington in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Orpington included, and across the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted cupboards fitted in Orpington?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

What happens when you come to measure?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

How long will the cupboards take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through at the design visit.
