Questions from Ruxley

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Ruxley?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Ruxley?

Yes, Ruxley is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bexley and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

How are fitted cupboards priced?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each cupboard is different, so we quote once we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Will the cupboards fit my uneven walls?

Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so we scribe and level every cupboard.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

How we make fitted cupboards for Ruxley

A boiler cupboard needs more thought than most. Every boiler comes with instructions on the space and ventilation around it, and we design the cupboard to keep to them. We make sure the doors open fully so the boiler can be serviced, and any work on the boiler itself is for a Gas Safe engineer. People typically come to us about space for laundry, cleaning things and boots and built-in storage that matches the woodwork, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Some homes from the 1950s and 1960s have original built-in cupboards on the landing or in the hall, which can be rebuilt with better shelves and doors. Around Ruxley, many homes come from the post-war decades, so reworking those spaces can be a good place to start. The new storage is made to the opening and fixed to suit the wall.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted cupboard we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Looking after your furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Make a note of what needs a home
  • Leaseholders: check your lease first
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Point out anything that needs access

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even. A door that starts to rub can typically be set right at the hinge.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. We cannot advise on your lease, but it is worth doing before the design is agreed.

Pricing fitted cupboards in Ruxley

What you pay depends on:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Getting in touch

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth

To get a quote, get in touch through our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a quote in writing follows.

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Drilling into concrete is noisier than into brick or plaster, so a word with the neighbours before fitting day can help. We work within any rules your building has on noise and hours. Dust is kept down and cleared as we go.

  1. You get in touch and tell us where the cupboards should go. It might be a hallway, a landing, a utility or a boot room.
  2. We come to your home for a design visit, measure the space and discuss the layout.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The cupboards are made in our workshop.
  5. We bring the cupboards to your home and fit them to the space.

Preparing the room

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

How to get a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

Fitted cupboards in Ruxley: local notes

About 51% of the homes in the streets around Ruxley went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 20% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Ruxley, Historic England’s list includes Ruxley Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile south, and Old Church of St Botolph (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 51% of homes in the streets around Ruxley were built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Homes from that era tend to have little built-in storage, so fitted cupboards make a real difference, fixed to suit concrete, block or brick.

For a flat near Albany Park station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Hall Place and Gardens, about 2.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way.

Is bespoke worth it?

Ready-made cupboards are typically made from chipboard with a printed or plastic finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in a colour you choose, finished to suit the room. Off-the-shelf furniture tends to leave gaps at the ends of a wall and space above it, while fitted furniture fills the space. The pieces are made to the room’s own widths.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why choose us

  • Over 300 projects completed

What prompts fitted cupboards in Ruxley

Some people want to hide a boiler, meter or fuse board. They’re rarely attractive, but they need to stay accessible, so a cupboard has to be designed around them. We plan the doors, panels and ventilation with that in mind.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • Boxing in a boiler with room for servicing
  • Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags
  • Cupboards that suit a period house
  • A cupboard for the meters with easy access

Close to Foots Cray Meadows? Fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

What to check before you book

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
