Loft Storage in Ruxley

We make loft storage for homes in Ruxley, designed around the room you have. Your eaves cupboard is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.

  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe

What it is made from

Doors and drawer fronts

Any door that gives access behind the knee wall can look like the others. It opens fully, so the space behind can still be reached. The other fronts can be doors, drawers or both.

Plinths and scribe strips

Loft rooms are seldom square. We use scribe strips and a plinth to take up the difference. That keeps the lines neat all round.

Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. We measure the route not just the room, so every section made in our workshop fits up the stairs. It is part of the job for any loft room in Ruxley. Typical reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft with no proper shelving and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

A good share of the homes around Ruxley were built between 1945 and the early 1970s. Homes from that era tend to have simpler shapes than older houses, with fewer recesses, so eaves cupboards often create the storage the house never had. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Fitting day, step by step

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Communal stairs in older blocks often have tight landings, so the size of each section is set by the stairs as well as the lift. Letting the caretaker or managing agent know ahead of time helps. We cover the floors in shared areas on the way in.

  1. First you tell us about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the storage we have discussed, for you to look over.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Starting with a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Pricing loft storage in Ruxley

Several things affect the price:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

What to send when you get in touch

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • What the furniture needs to hold

We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Loft storage for homes in Ruxley

About 51% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Ruxley went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 20% between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Ruxley, Historic England’s list includes Ruxley Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and Old Church of St Botolph (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Bexley is no exception. Where a street in Ruxley is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Close to Foots Cray Meadows? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If you live in a period home close to St Botolph's Church, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
  • Altering the structure of the loft

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Ruxley?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Albany Park station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

Not when it’s planned well. We look behind the knee wall during the design visit and plan the storage so air can still move. Insulation and ventilation work itself isn’t ours.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. Hanging goes where there is height, with shelves where it’s low. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.

Why people ask for loft storage in Ruxley

Most people get in touch because the eaves are going to waste. The low spaces at the edge of a loft room are hard to use. Built-in storage makes that space useful.

Some of the things we’re asked to solve are these:

  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs

For families living near Hope Community School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
