About our fitted cupboards in Wimbledon Chase
Boxing in a boiler is a job that needs care. The boiler maker’s instructions set out the clearances and ventilation it needs, and we design the cupboard to keep to them. We make sure the doors open fully so the boiler can be serviced, while any work on the boiler is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. If your home has tidying away the gas and electricity meters and storage in a corner nothing else fits, fitted cupboards made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
Outside walls in houses from before 1919 are normally solid brick, which can be cold, so storage against it is designed with ventilation behind. That matters around Wimbledon Chase, where a large share of the homes are that old. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

When is bespoke worth it?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.
Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
For a smooth, even look, spray painting is a good choice, and it is finished before fitting day.
Doors and drawer fronts
In a narrow hallway, the way doors open matters, so the doors clear the walls and stairs.
What happens on fitting day
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.
- You get in touch and tell us whether the cupboard will house a boiler, meters or a fuse board.
- We visit to measure and plan the cupboard so meters, fuse boards and any boiler stay easy to reach. Boiler work itself is for a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with vents and access panels where they’re needed.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Keep pets in another room while we work

Questions we’re often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Wimbledon Chase station?
Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
Is Wimbledon Chase in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?
Yes, Wimbledon Chase is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Merton and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
What materials do you use for fitted cupboards?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
What do fitted cupboards cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A small boiler cupboard and a full run of hallway storage are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us, and we’ll see what we can do.

Pricing fitted cupboards in Wimbledon Chase
To work out the quote, we look at:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The overall size of the piece
- Parking near your home
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
