Fitted wardrobes in Brimsdown, Enfield

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Brimsdown, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Too little room for clothes
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe

What fitted wardrobes can’t fix

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist

Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

Fitted wardrobes in Brimsdown: what you get

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. If your home has bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall, fitted wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Around Brimsdown, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. That’s where fitted wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Fitting day, step by step

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.

Preparing the room

  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Brimsdown

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Brimsdown station?

Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is Brimsdown in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London, and Brimsdown is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

It depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home, then put together in the room. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How big the furniture is
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Helping us understand the room

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
