Fitted wardrobes in Edmonton: what you get

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. If you are living with not enough hanging space and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall, fitted wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Homes in an area like Edmonton can come from many different periods, so a bedroom could have solid brick walls, lath and plaster, blockwork or plasterboard. Each wall is checked at the measuring visit before fixings are chosen. If the room has a chimney breast, the alcoves can take fitted storage; if not, a full wall often works best.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

What happens on fitting day

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so tell us what applies at the measuring visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

How to prepare

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Edmonton

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Edmonton were built before 1919 (about 29%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 13 entries within half a mile of the centre of Edmonton. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. About 27% of homes in the area around Edmonton date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

The wider area includes historic houses like Bruce Castle, about 1.8 miles south. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For a family home near Brettenham Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Edmonton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do you cover homes near Edmonton Green station?

Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

Every job is priced for its room: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You will get a written quote once we’ve measured up.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, so there is normally a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there’s nowhere for dust to collect on top. Walls and floors are seldom perfectly flat in any home, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room as they go in.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

How it’s made

Doors and drawer fronts

Door styles range from simple flat fronts to panelled ones. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.

Birch plywood

Drawers get heavy use, so we often make the boxes from birch plywood, standing up to daily opening.

Do you need fitted wardrobes in Edmonton?

For some, it’s about a calmer room. A single run of painted doors looks tidier than mixed furniture and keeps everything out of sight.

People usually get in touch with us about things like these:

  • An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Lamb's Cottage, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

What to check before you book

  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
