Fitted wardrobes in Enfield: what you get
Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We plan for the people using it too, keeping rails at a height they can reach. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and wardrobes that are full to bursting.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Enfield, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. Small rooms like that suit fitted wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Fitted wardrobes in Enfield: local notes
About 31% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Enfield went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 24% before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Enfield, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Andrew Enfield Parish Church (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west, and North East Building of Enfield Grammar School (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If you live on or close to a main road in Enfield, let us know at the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
If your children go to Enfield Grammar School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Andrew, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Forty Hall, about 1.3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Enfield is within the London Borough of Enfield, about 2 miles south-east of Edmonton. We cover Enfield as part of our work across the rest of London, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our work takes in places right across the rest of London, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Every home in EN1, EN2 and N21 is within our area for fitted wardrobes, from the main roads to the quieter streets. If your home is on a street such as Lea Road, Farr Road and Cecil Road, or close by, we can visit to measure up for fitted wardrobes. Enfield sits close to the A110. We also cover the places around Enfield: Bush Hill Park (1 mile south-east), Bush Hill (1 mile south), Enfield Chase (1 mile west), Gordon Hill (1 mile north) and Forty Hill (1 mile north-east). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places such as Edmonton (2 miles south-east), Palmers Green (3 miles south-west), New Southgate (4 miles south-west), Upper Edmonton (3 miles south), Oakthorpe Park (3 miles south) and Arnos Grove (3 miles south-west).
Around Enfield
Around Enfield, we cover homes near St Andrew's CofE Primary School, Kings Head pub and Grange Park Preparatory School and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in Enfield itself: Enfield Town station. Nearby you will also find St Michaels Hospital (0.7 miles north) and Museum of Enfield (less than half a mile south).
Why bespoke in Enfield?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, ready to assemble in the room. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
Why choose us
- Workshop-made and fitted by us
- Saturdays by arrangement
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- Made for your room, not a standard size

Fitting day, step by step
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
- Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.
Preparing the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Starting with a design visit
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To book one, use our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.
What it costs
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.
Helping us understand the room
When you contact us, these help most:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Tips worth knowing
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- Empty the area where we will be working
Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners.
Keep any ventilation gaps clear, particularly on an external wall. Watch for musty smells or marks on clothes and have the cause looked at early.
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Enfield?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Enfield?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
Do you cover Enfield?
Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, Enfield included.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
It is common, and it’s allowed for. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
