Fitted wardrobes in Nash: what you get

The inside matters as much as the doors. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own, so coats and dresses have room and shirts do not waste height. It helps to think about what you wear most before we meet. People normally come to us about condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and too little room for clothes; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Nash, bedrooms usually have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can be plain, panelled or shaped to suit the room. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.

Spray-painted finish

Because the doors are sprayed before fitting, they arrive already finished. Treat them gently while the paint cures fully.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. That is a real advantage if you’re renting or moving soon. Built-in wardrobes become part of the house. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit.

Questions from Nash

Do you cover homes near Hayes (Kent) station?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Nash?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.

How is the price worked out?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish. We send a written quote after the design visit.

Fitting day, step by step

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
  3. A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Advice

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Nash

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 69% of the housing in the area around Nash, with about 12% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The centre of Nash is within about a quarter of a mile of the Nash Conservation Area. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Nash. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

Down House, about 2.4 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Priors Farmhouse, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Close to Coney Hall Recreation Ground? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.
