Fitted bedroom furniture in New Addington
About 78% of the homes in the streets around New Addington went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 13% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Croydon are set locally. If your street in New Addington is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit. About 44% of households in the neighbourhood around New Addington live in detached or semi-detached houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
For an older house near St Edward King and Confessor, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Close to Addington Vale? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. The wider area includes historic houses such as Addington Palace, about 1.5 miles north-west. Fitted wardrobes for homes in New Addington
The inside matters as much as the doors. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own. It is worth noting the clothes you reach for most before the design visit. If you’re living with not enough hanging space and storage boxes stacked under the bed, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Around New Addington, where many homes date from the post-war decades, the bedroom may be modest in size but regular in shape. Where there isn’t much space in front, a careful layout helps everything fit. Concrete and blockwork walls need fixings chosen for them.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Looking after your furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. These habits help most:
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
- Let us know which walls face outside
- Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall ahead of time
- Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Hinges can usually be adjusted to line the doors up again, and sliding doors can be adjusted on their runners.
Do not dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut. Opening a window now and then helps.
What fitted wardrobes cannot fix
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

From workshop to your room
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a post-war block of flats, the route in may include communal stairs, landings and a lift, so the furniture comes in sections that fit them. If the building has rules on lift use or working hours, it helps to tell us at the measuring visit.
- You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
- We come to measure and discuss the design, including the doors and the finish.
- Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

Getting a quote
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Advice
Flats, conversions and lettings
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Boards, parts and paint
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting, whether the doors are plain or panelled.
Doors and drawer fronts
Where there is room to open them, hinged doors give full access. Sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once.
Questions from New Addington
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in New Addington?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
I live near Hayes (Kent) station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. We send a quote in writing after the design visit.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
How long will the fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with long hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers where it is lower. It turns awkward space into storage.
