About our fitted home offices in Beam Park

Cables are easy to forget and hard to hide later. Cable holes and routes are built into the desk and cupboards. Any new sockets are fitted by your electrician, with the furniture designed to suit. Talking it through at the measuring visit in Beam Park saves trouble later. We make home offices from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are an alcove or landing that could take a desk and shelves that sag under books and files.

Big windows in newer homes bring plenty of light, and sometimes glare on a screen, so the desk position is worth thinking about. Many homes around Beam Park date from 2000 onwards, and we look at the light during the design visit. A desk side-on to the window often works best.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Fitted home offices in Beam Park: local notes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 43% of the housing in the streets around Beam Park, with about 34% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Newer homes are more common around Beam Park than across Havering: about 43% date from 2000 onwards, against about 13%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That makes plasterboard stud walls and compact rooms more likely, which shapes the fixings and sizes. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Beam Park, as it does anywhere else in London. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.

If your children go to Newtons Primary School or a school nearby, a built-in desk can be shared between home working and homework. The wider area includes historic houses like Rainham Hall, about 1 mile south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. If you live near Beam Valley Country Park, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day.

Fitting day, step by step

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so it is useful to sort them out beforehand. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.

  1. You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.
  2. We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Before fitting day

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Arranging a design visit

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standalone office furniture can move with you, which suits a short stay. Fitted furniture stays put, and it makes more of the room. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, whereas fitted pieces painted to suit the walls sit back into the space.

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Fitted tight to walls that are not straight

Common questions about fitted home offices

Is Beam Park in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes, Beam Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Do you cover homes near Dagenham Dock station?

Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you add power points to the desk?

That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we have allowed for them.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We will also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.

When you need someone else

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Electrical work for the office, which your electrician carries out
  • Building a loft conversion, which isn’t our work
  • Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and finishes

Pull-out drawers

Desk drawers keep the things you use every day close by. Deeper drawers can take files. We size each drawer to suit.

Hand-painted finish

Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can be matched to the room’s woodwork.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
