TV and Media Units in Beam Park

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on TV and media units in Beam Park starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
  • Space for a soundbar and speakers
  • Cables trailing across the wall

TV and media units in Beam Park

A built-in TV wall often needs sockets in new places, like behind the screen or in the equipment cupboard. That job is for your electrician. It’s best done before we fit. If you’re living with standard units leaving gaps and alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste, TV and media units made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

A large number of homes around Beam Park date from 2000 onwards, and in a newer home the living space is normally open-plan, without a chimney breast. So TV and media units often give the room its shape, along a full wall or around the TV. Many internal walls in newer homes are plasterboard on timber or metal studs, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Beam Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Dagenham Dock station?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?

We can plan for either a wall-mounted TV or one standing on the unit. For a wall-mounted TV, the layout works around the bracket position, and if it stands on the unit we size the top for it.

How much will my TV unit cost?

Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how awkward the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It is useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

How do I get a quote for TV and media units in Beam Park?

Just send us a few details through our contact form. It’s useful to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and we will arrange a design visit.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

What affects the cost of TV and media units

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Parking near your home
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • How square the room is

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Before the design visit

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

Living-room carpentry in Beam Park: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Beam Park were built since 2000 (about 43%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 34%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Havering has its own. If your street in Beam Park is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking during the design visit. Around a third of the homes in the area around Beam Park (about 34%) were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Rooms from that era are often squarer, with fewer alcoves and sometimes no chimney breast, so a full wall of TV and media units is often the answer, with fixings chosen for the wall.

The wider area includes historic houses like Rainham Hall, about 1 mile south-east. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. For an older house near Church of St Helen and St Giles, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Living in a block of flats near Dagenham Dock station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

How fitting day works

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
  2. At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.

How to prepare

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Starting with a design visit

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

What it’s made from

Shelves

Each shelf is planned for what will sit on it, with space around for air.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, so we use it for panels, doors and the faces you see.

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Talk to your electrician early about sockets
  • Note the screen size you have or plan to buy
  • Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
  • Mention parking and stairs when we visit

Doors can settle a little once the unit is in use. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line.

Avoid piling devices on one shelf. Give each its own space.
