Fitted home offices for your home in East Dulwich
Fitted home offices in East Dulwich: what you get
A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, planned around how you work. In East Dulwich, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. If your home has wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day and a guest room that’s needed for work, that’s what home offices are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
A large share of the homes around East Dulwich were built before 1919, and Victorian and Edwardian rooms typically have a chimney breast with an alcove each side. A desk can sit in an alcove, with shelving above and a cupboard below, which keeps work in its own corner of the room. Walls are rarely straight in older houses, so the desk and shelves are scribed to fit.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Fitting day, step by step
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we will have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it’s useful to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch with some details about the room and the home it’s in.
- At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways. It is useful to tell us about parking, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- We build the office in our workshop, in sections, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry the sections in, assemble them in the room and fit them, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Preparing the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
How to get a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Pricing fitted home offices in East Dulwich
The price for your room depends on:
- Parking near your home
- The overall size of the piece
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Spray painting or hand painting
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.
What we need to know
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Is it time for fitted home offices?
Keeping work in its own space is a common wish. With doors over the desk, work can be put away at the end of the day. It makes the house feel like home again in the evening.
We’re often asked to help with:
- Files and folders piling up
- Glare from a window on the screen
- An alcove or landing that could take a desk
- No proper place to work from home
If you live in a flat close to East Dulwich station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
What to check before you book
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of East Dulwich include Champion Lodge (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west, and Champion Cottage (Grade II), under half a mile north. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. Questions from East Dulwich
Do you make fitted home offices for homes in East Dulwich?
Yes, East Dulwich is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Southwark and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in East Dulwich?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Can you fit a desk under a sloping ceiling?
Yes, in a loft that’s already converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, with storage built into the lower parts of the slope. The conversion itself isn’t our work.
How long does it take to fit a home office?
How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Because everything is made in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We work tidily and keep the room as clear as we can.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
Before and after fitting day
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Think about the space you need to push back
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Choose a calm colour for a working room
- Notice where daylight falls at different times
Once the fitting is done, your office is ready to use. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. A desk mat helps protect the new paint while it settles.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, get in touch through our contact form and describe it.
