About fitted wardrobes in SE15
In older bedrooms, the chimney breast alcoves are often the obvious place for clothes. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature. We meet the picture rail and cornice neatly, or cut around them. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall and a bedroom that never feels tidy.
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
What affects the price in SE15
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Bedroom storage across SE15
SE15 has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. The design follows the room, not a catalogue, with the inside laid out around what you keep.
The biggest shares of homes in the SE15 postcode district were built before 1919 (about 38%) and since 2000 (about 21%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. About 52% of households in SE15 live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day. Of the 8 places we have local pages for in SE15, 2 have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.
SE15 is part of the area we cover, which takes in all 32 boroughs and the City. Let us know about access and parking when you first get in touch.
Peckham: Close to Brimmington Park? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Living in a block of flats near Queens Road Peckham station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
Looking after your furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
- List the things that will not hang, like jumpers and shoes
- Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then so the doors run smoothly. Clear anything that falls into it.
Let doors close gently rather than slamming. It keeps hinges and runners in adjustment longer.
Is bespoke worth it?
Older homes rarely have straight walls or level floors. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
With no grain to show through, MDF gives a calm painted finish. We use the moisture-resistant grade for fitted wardrobes.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. Small marks are simple to touch up, and it suits a softer, traditional look.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Pricing fitted wardrobes in SE15
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- The overall size of the piece
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Doors and drawers, and how many
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
What to send when you get in touch
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in SE15
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.
Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in SE15?
Yes. Our area is the whole of London: every borough and the City of London, and that includes SE15.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, using moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in SE15?
Just use our contact form. Rough sizes and a few pictures help, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.
