Fitted home offices designed for your room
Fitted home offices in Elephant and Castle
Not every home has a spare room, but a wide landing or a loft room can work. Under a slope, the desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand. On a landing, the furniture must leave a clear way past. We measure and plan for the space you have in Elephant and Castle. Most enquiries start with a desk in the wrong light and no proper place to work from home, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a newer townhouse or duplex, a landing or the space under the stairs can take a compact desk. Around Elephant and Castle, many homes were built since 2000. A desk like that suits occasional work, with closed storage to keep it tidy. Any cables are routed neatly to the nearest sockets.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Before and after fitting day
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Note the position of sockets in the room
- Tell us about parking during the design visit
- Note what sits on and around your desk
- Note how many files and books you need to store
Load shelves evenly, with heavier books and files at the ends near the supports. It helps shelves stay straight. We size them for what you told us you’d store.
Use the cable routes so wires don’t rub the paint. Wires pulled across an edge can wear it. Every so often, tidy the cables back into place.
Fitting day, step by step
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
- We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
- The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.
Before fitting day
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Flats, blocks and rented homes
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the rest of the room. Off-the-shelf depths can crowd a compact new-build room, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It still uses the full height.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, then set it out in the quote.
Why us?
- More than 300 projects completed
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- Work across the whole of London

Elephant and Castle homes and fitted home offices
About 39% of the homes in the area around Elephant and Castle went up since 2000, and about 20% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The centre of Elephant and Castle is within about a quarter of a mile of the Eliot's Row Conservation Area. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so the route from the van to your door is planned beforehand, particularly for larger pieces.
Near listed buildings like Church of St George the Martyr, about 0.6 miles north-east of the centre of Elephant and Castle, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a flat near Elephant & Castle station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For an older house near Metropolitan Tabernacle, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

FAQs: fitted home offices in Elephant and Castle
Is parking a problem for fitting in Elephant and Castle?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Elephant & Castle station?
Yes, homes across Southwark and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you fit a desk under a sloping ceiling?
Yes, in a loft that’s already converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. The conversion itself isn’t our work.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
