Working from home in Grange Park

In the neighbourhood around Grange Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 27%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Grange Park, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary Magdalene (Grade II*), under half a mile north-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Enfield included. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Grange Park, as it does anywhere else in London. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

Close to Enfield Town Park? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. For a family home near Grange Park Primary School, closed cupboards above a desk keep work papers and school books apart. Forty Hall, about 2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

Fitted home offices in Grange Park: what you get

Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the work surface stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Grange Park. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about an awkward space with no furniture that fits and glare from a window on the screen.

For occasional working, a small desk on a landing or under the stairs can be enough. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Grange Park, the hall or landing may have room for one. Closed storage keeps paperwork tidy. Meters and fuse boards stay reachable.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. It starts when you contact us about a home office.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the room, the window and your equipment.
  3. A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
  4. We make the desk, shelves and cupboards in our workshop.
  5. The office is fitted and set level, ready for your first day at the desk.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Ask for a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

When you need someone else

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Plastering and decorating around the office
  • Building a loft conversion, which is not our work

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Built-in desks
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Cable routes
  • Filing drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish

Tips worth knowing

None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Note what sits on and around your desk
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Consider your chair when planning the desk

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the office, fill in our short enquiry form and we will help.

Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If a door drops or a drawer catches, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check during the design visit.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

Questions we are often asked

Does a conservation area in or near Grange Park affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

I live near Grange Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Is an alcove big enough for a desk?

That varies with the size of the alcove. Lots of alcoves suit a small desk, with shelving above and drawers below. We will tell you honestly when we visit.

Is it possible to have an office and a guest bed in one room?

That depends on the space you have. An office on one wall often leaves room for a bed. At the design visit, we’ll suggest what works.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Pricing fitted home offices in Grange Park

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking near your home
  • The internal fittings

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.
