Fitted home offices in New Southgate: what you get

Storage keeps a home office calm. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the work surface stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in New Southgate. Typical reasons to get in touch are a corner too odd for a standard desk and glare from a window on the screen, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, home offices end up in all sorts of rooms: a spare bedroom, a corner of the living room, a landing or the space under the stairs. Home offices are made for whichever you have in New Southgate, painted in a colour agreed with you.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Common questions about fitted home offices

Can you fit furniture in a home close to New Southgate station?

Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is New Southgate in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes, we work across Enfield, New Southgate included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.

Can you add power points to the desk?

That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

How is a home office priced?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. It depends on how much furniture you want, the layout and the finish. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

For a family home near St Paul's CofE Primary School N11, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework. For a flat near New Southgate station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For an older house near St Paul's Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

A desk can sit behind doors, out of sight when you are done. It is useful where the room has other jobs too. We’ll go through the options at the measuring visit.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Because it cuts cleanly, MDF suits panels and angled pieces. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. It makes up most of the visible parts.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. It starts when you contact us about a home office. A line on how you work helps too.
  2. We visit to measure and talk about the equipment you use, and plan where the cables will run.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any part of it.
  4. We make the desk, shelves and cupboards in our workshop.
  5. The office is fitted and set level, ready for your first day at the desk, with the cable routes left open.

Preparing the room

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Let us know about every device that needs a home
  • Measure your chair and how much room you need behind it
  • Note the position of sockets in the room
  • Let us know about parking near your home

When we’ve finished fitting, the desk and storage are ready. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Use a mat under a laptop or anything with rubber feet while the paint hardens.

Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, send us a few details through our contact form and describe it.

What affects the cost of fitted home offices

Several things affect the price:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • How many doors and drawers there are

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What we need to know

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • How you want to use the space

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
