Fitted wardrobes across RM14: what to expect

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet. Typical reasons to get in touch are standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and wardrobes that are full to bursting, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.

What affects the price in RM14

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Why work with us

  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • 300+ projects completed
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls

Starting with a design visit

To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Near you in Upminster

The streets we cover here include those near The Crumpled Horn pub, St. Andrew's Park and Eastbrook School. Also close by are Church of St Laurence (under half a mile south-west) and Upminster Junior School (less than half a mile south-west). There’s a railway station in Upminster itself: Upminster station. A little further out are St George's Hospital (1.7 miles south-west) and Upminster Tithe Barn Museum of Nostalgia (0.5 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Cranham Marsh.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across RM14

We make fitted wardrobes for homes across RM14, in Hornchurch, Upminster and Upminster Bridge and beyond. On an external wall, ventilation is designed in to help keep condensation away. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whatever it is made of.

The biggest shares of homes in the RM14 postcode district were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 56%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 27%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. About 56% of homes in RM14 date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. About 27% of homes in RM14 were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, fixed to suit the wall.

In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so the way in is measured along with the room.

Upminster: Close to St. Andrew's Park? Fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Hare Hall, about 2.6 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home.

  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

Spraying in the workshop means the doors come to your home finished. Treat them gently while the paint cures fully.

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front, depending on the look you prefer. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.

What it costs

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Parking and unloading on your street

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, use our contact form.

Getting in touch

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Approximate measurements of the space

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flats, leases and landlords

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you work in RM14?

Yes. RM14 is part of the area we cover. To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

The fitting depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The wardrobes are built in our workshop first before we come to fit them.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

How is the price worked out?

Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You’ll get a quote in writing once we have measured up.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.
