Loft Storage in Hacton
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on loft storage in Hacton starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.
- Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
Loft storage designed for your room
How we make loft storage for Hacton
We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. The conversion itself is not our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. In Hacton, it all begins with a design visit. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a converted loft with no fitted furniture and boxes and suitcases with no home.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Hacton, the hall is often wide enough for coat and shoe storage. Bays at the front suit a seat with storage below, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Eaves cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Questions we’re often asked
Can you make loft storage for a home in Hacton?
Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London, and Hacton is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do you cover homes near Upminster station?
Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?
Not if it’s planned with care. We design eaves storage so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft.
Fitted storage in Hacton
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 42% of the housing in the streets around Hacton, with about 29% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. About 72% of households in the neighbourhood around Hacton live in detached or semi-detached houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. A house like that usually has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Matthews Church Hall, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. Close to Hornchurch Country Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For families living near Scotts Primary School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.
Hacton is about 3 miles north-west of Romford, in the London Borough of Havering. Anywhere in Hacton, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. In Havering, Hacton is one of the places we cover.
In RM12, RM14 and RM13, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you contact us.
Why bespoke in Hacton?
For simple storage in a boarded loft, ready-made shelving can do the job. A fitted design earns its place in a loft room you live in. We’ll give you an honest view at the design visit. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

Fitting day, step by step
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- It starts when you get in touch with some details about the loft, and how you get up to it.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you, including the headroom under the slope.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out.
- Your storage is made at our workshop and painted to your chosen colour. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use.
Preparing the room
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
Ask for a quote
It is useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Where other trades come in
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- Any work on the structure of the house
- Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.
What it is made from
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
- Hand-painted finish
- Sloped wardrobe tops
What it costs
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- The overall size of the piece
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Parking near your home
- The internal fittings
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- How you want to use the space
- Where you live, with the postcode
To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
