Fitted Home Offices in Hounslow

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted home offices in Hounslow starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • An awkward space with no furniture that fits
  • A tangle of chargers and leads
  • A guest room that is needed for work

Looking after your furniture

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Let us know about every device that needs a home
  • Tell us about parking at the design visit
  • Choose a calm colour for a working room
  • Think about glare on your screen

Once the fitting is done, your office is ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. A desk mat helps protect the new paint while it settles.

Keep cables in their routes rather than pulled across the desk. Wires pulled across an edge can wear it. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.

About our fitted home offices in Hounslow

Planning the cables early is what keeps a home office tidy. We design routes through the desk and units for chargers, screens and printers. Any new sockets are fitted by your electrician, with the furniture designed to suit. We look at the sockets when we visit in Hounslow. If you are living with a tangle of chargers and leads and paperwork and files with nowhere to go, that is what home offices are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Homes in an area like Hounslow can come from many different periods, and the right spot for home offices might be an alcove, a spare room, a landing or under the eaves. The design visit is where we look at the options. Walls could be brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard, so fixings are chosen for each one.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Questions from Hounslow

Do you cover homes near Hounslow station?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hounslow?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Can a desk be fitted into an alcove?

In many homes, yes. A desk with shelving over it can fit neatly in an alcove. We scribe it to the walls, which are rarely straight in a period room. At the design visit we will measure and tell you what fits.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, not us. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.

How long will the home office fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We make the desk and storage in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

Pricing fitted home offices in Hounslow

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • How square the room is
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it is useful to send:

  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting on site lets the office be finished alongside the woodwork around it. Marks can be touched in without much trouble. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the office. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Working from home in Hounslow

Homes built since 2000 make up about 30% of the housing in the streets around Hounslow, with about 27% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Hounslow. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. A quarter or more of the homes in the area around Hounslow (about 27%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The box room over the stairs in an interwar house is a classic home office.

For a flat near Hounslow station, home offices are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. The wider area includes historic houses such as Osterley House, about 1.6 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. Close to Inwood Park? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day.

From workshop to your room

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. You let us know how you work and where you’d like the office.
  2. At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
  3. We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
  4. The office is made at our workshop and painted in your colour. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.

Preparing the room

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
