About fitted wardrobes in TW3
Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We plan for the people using it too, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall.
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
- A written quote follows.
- Once you are happy, the wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place.
What affects the price in TW3
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Fitted wardrobes across TW3: local notes
From Twickenham, Isleworth and Woodlands to the quieter streets, bedrooms across TW3 range from box rooms to large rooms with bays. Each design uses the room’s own widths and height. The inside layout is planned around your things.
The biggest shares of homes in the TW3 postcode district were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 30%) and before 1919 (about 23%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 30% of homes in TW3 date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. 3 of the 9 places in TW3 with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.
Getting furniture into a London home takes planning, from narrow halls to lifts and parking, so the way in is measured along with the room.
Hounslow: If your children go to Chatsworth Primary School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary the Virgin, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, ready to assemble in the room.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Couples often want storage that works for two. We can plan separate sections for each person, each with the rails, shelves and drawers its owner needs.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
Honest limits
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
Before and after fitting day
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
- Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall ahead of time
- Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners, which can mark the finish.
Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads.
Boards, parts and paint
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribe strips are trimmed on site to follow the walls and ceiling. This closes the gaps a straight wardrobe would leave in an older room.
Spray-painted finish
Spraying coats edges and corners evenly and leaves no brush marks. The colour is agreed at the design stage.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in TW3
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes, as long as it’s ventilated. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we plan airflow behind and within it to help avoid condensation and mould.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.
What are your fitted wardrobes made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is strong and holds screws well.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We will design around them.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted and can include bedside shelves. The bed size and room are measured when we visit.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
