Common questions about fitted home offices
Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Spring Grove?
Yes. Spring Grove is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Spring Grove?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
The furniture is built in sections. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the design visit.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, in a loft that is already converted. The desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand comfortably, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. The conversion itself isn’t our work.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Fitted home offices in Spring Grove
We make each home office in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits desks and long shelves, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it is brought to your home in Spring Grove and fitted. Most enquiries start with an alcove or landing that could take a desk and a room with two jobs to do, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A compact desk under the stairs or on a landing suits someone who works from home now and then. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Spring Grove, a landing or the space below the stairs could hold a compact desk. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Any meters or fuse board stay easy to get to.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

More for homes in Spring Grove
When is bespoke worth it?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Why bespoke in Spring Grove?
Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. How far a shelf spans and what it carries make a difference. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.

What affects the cost of fitted home offices
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The width and height of the space
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The internal fittings
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking during the design visit.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these help most:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- How you want to use the space
- Where you live, with the postcode
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, get in touch through our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.
Working from home in Spring Grove
In the streets around Spring Grove, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and the years since 2000 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Spring Grove, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Spring Grove is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
Close to Inwood Park? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Summer House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it’s worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

How it’s made
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting on site lets the office be finished alongside the woodwork around it. It is easy to touch up later. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first.
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors can close over shelves, files or a printer. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. When you finish, the doors close on work.
