How we price fitted home offices
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- How big the furniture is
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Parking near your home
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.
Before the design visit
Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Approximate measurements of the space
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, use our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.
Fitted home offices in Kingston Vale: what you get
Where the window sits affects how comfortable the desk will be. A screen facing a window can be hard to read, and a window behind you can cause glare. We plan the desk position with the window in mind, often with the light to one side. We look at it early at the measuring visit in Kingston Vale. Most enquiries start with working at the kitchen table and cables trailing across the desk and floor; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
In a house with several bedrooms, the question is often which room works best as an office. Around Kingston Vale, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so there may be a choice of rooms. Daylight, quiet and where the broadband arrives are worth weighing up. The design visit is a good time to talk through the options.
The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Questions we’re often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Raynes Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Kingston Vale?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
How is a home office priced?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. It depends on how much furniture you want, the layout and the finish. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
What materials do you use for home offices?
The office is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the desk, shelves and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
Do photos help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s easy to buy.
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
What happens on fitting day
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
- We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
- Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.
Before fitting day
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

Honest limits
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- Converting a loft to make room for an office
- Setting up computers, screens or networks
- Changes to the structure of the house
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf desks and shelving are made for flat walls and standard sizes. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. A fitted home office is designed for the room and scribed to the walls. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is a workspace that uses the room well. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.
What you get with us
- Scribed to uneven walls
- A spray or hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Designed for the room you have
