Fitted home offices designed for your room
From workshop to your room
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You get in touch with some details about the room and the home it’s in.
- We visit to measure the room and the way in, and discuss the design. It helps to let us know about parking, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- We build the office in our workshop, in sections, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The sections are brought in, joined and scribed to the walls, ready for work.
How to prepare
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Fitted home offices for homes in Puddle Dock
The desk is the heart of a home office. It’s made at a height and depth to suit you and the way you work, with storage below where it helps. Shelving and cupboards can then be built around it. We’ll go through the details at the design visit in Puddle Dock. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are a screen that’s hard to read by the window and shelving that bows under the load.
For occasional working, a small desk on a landing or under the stairs can be enough. Around Puddle Dock, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the hall or landing may have room for one. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Meters and fuse boards stay reachable.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Caring for painted furniture
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Check whether you will need new sockets
- Think about what will sit on the shelves
- Think about the space you need to push back
Once the fitting is done, your office is ready to use. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. A desk mat helps protect the new paint while it settles.
Use the cable routes so wires do not rub the paint. Wires pulled across an edge can wear it. Every so often, tidy the cables back into place.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.
Questions we’re often asked
I live near Upminster station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.
Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Puddle Dock?
Yes, Puddle Dock is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Do you wire in sockets for the home office?
Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, not us. We design the desk with cable routes and leave room where sockets will go. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.
Built-in desks and shelving in Puddle Dock
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Puddle Dock were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 80%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 11%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Puddle Dock include Franks Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Puddle Dock, as it does anywhere else in London. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

Where other trades come in
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Setting up computers, screens or networks
- Converting a loft to make room for an office
- New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Is it time for fitted home offices?
Trailing cables are one of the things people most want to sort. Planned routes through the desk keep cables out of sight. Any new sockets are for your electrician, and we design around them.
People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:
- A corner too odd for a standard desk
- Working at the kitchen table
- A desk buried under papers
- Cables trailing across the desk and floor
If your home is one of the older houses near Moor Lane Church, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.
What to check before you book
