Cables are easy to forget and hard to hide later. Cable holes and routes are built into the desk and cupboards. If you need new sockets, they’re for your electrician, and we plan the furniture around them. We look at the sockets when we visit in Raynes Park. Most enquiries start with files and folders piling up and a room with two jobs to do; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Raynes Park, a converted loft can be a quiet place to work, with storage tucked under the slope. For lofts, we work in rooms already converted or boarded. Or a desk can sit in an alcove or a bay.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

From workshop to your room
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- First you tell us about the room and what your work needs, including the equipment you use.
- At the design visit we measure, look at the light and the sockets and plan the layout with you. New sockets are for your electrician, so it helps to think about them early.
- A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to read through.
- The desk, shelving and cupboards are made at our workshop.
- We bring it to your home, fit it and leave it ready to use.
Preparing the room
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Arranging a design visit
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.
Advice
FAQs: fitted home offices in Raynes Park
Is Raynes Park in the area you cover for fitted home offices?
Yes, we work across Merton, Raynes Park included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Raynes Park?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Do you wire in sockets for the home office?
New sockets need an electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.
Tips worth knowing
Getting the most from fitted home offices starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Decide how much should be open shelving and how much behind doors
- Let us know about every device that needs a home
- Estimate the shelf space you’ll need
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. It is worth keeping a record of the paint colour. Should you have a question about the office, get in touch through our contact form and we will help.
Use the cable routes so wires don’t rub the paint. Tight cables can mark edges over time. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.
What it costs
There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. The things that affect it are:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Parking near your home
- How square the room is
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
What to send when you get in touch
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
What it’s made from
Doors and drawer fronts
Fronts are made from moisture-resistant MDF and painted to your colour. Panels can echo the woodwork in an older room. The lines are kept neat and even.
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the office. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.
Raynes Park homes and fitted home offices
About 48% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Raynes Park went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 25% before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Raynes Park, Historic England’s list includes Methodist Church (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Raynes Park is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If you live in a flat close to Raynes Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For an older house near St Saviour's Church, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. Southside House, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the rest of the room. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.
