Fitted Home Offices in Ruislip Gardens

We make fitted home offices in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood for homes in Ruislip Gardens. Each piece is finished by spray or by hand, in the colour you choose.

  • A desk in the wrong light
  • A corner too odd for a standard desk
  • A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room

Practical tips

These points come up often when people plan fitted home offices. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Think about what you’d like on show
  • Measure your chair and how much room you need behind it
  • Notice where daylight falls at different times

Once the fitting is done, your office is ready to use. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. A desk mat helps protect the new paint while it settles.

Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, fill in our short enquiry form and describe it.

About our fitted home offices in Ruislip Gardens

A good home office has a place for everything. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the desk stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Ruislip Gardens. Most enquiries start with wires with no tidy route and wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A compact desk under the stairs or on a landing suits someone who works from home now and then. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Ruislip Gardens, the hall or landing may have room for one. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Meters and fuse boards stay reachable.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the home office we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.
  2. We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Preparing the room

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Getting a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

What affects the price in Ruislip Gardens

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The width and height of the space

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Helping us understand the room

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:

  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Where you live, with the postcode

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Ruislip Gardens

Do you cover homes near South Ruislip station?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Ruislip Gardens?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Is an alcove big enough for a desk?

In many homes, yes. A desk with shelving over it can fit neatly in an alcove. We scribe it to the walls, which are rarely straight in a period room. At the design visit we’ll measure and tell you what fits.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

How long does it take to fit a home office?

How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is built in our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

Bespoke fitted home offices or ready-made?

Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. Span, depth and load all matter. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

If you live in a flat close to South Ruislip station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

What it’s made from

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is smooth and even. We spray in the workshop, so the finish is complete before fitting. You choose the colour.

Shelves

Shelving over the desk keeps reference books close. Deeper shelves lower down can take a printer or files. We plan the depths at the design visit.
