West Drayton Fitted Home Offices

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted home offices in West Drayton starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
  • A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room
  • A desk in the wrong light

Fitted home offices for your home in West Drayton

About our fitted home offices in West Drayton

A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, planned around how you work. In West Drayton, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. Most enquiries start with a guest room that’s needed for work and files and folders piling up, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

If you live in one of the post-war homes around West Drayton, the spare room may be small but regular in shape. A desk along one wall, shelves above and a cupboard for the printer can fit even a small room. Cable routes are planned before anything is fixed.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Honest limits

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Painting the walls and ceiling
  • Converting a loft to make room for an office
  • Knocking through or opening up rooms

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Built-in desks
  • Cable routes
  • Filing drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Communal stairs in older blocks often have tight landings, so the size of each section is set by the stairs as well as the lift. Letting the caretaker or managing agent know ahead of time helps. Common parts are protected while we carry in.

  1. First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind, whether that’s a spare room, an alcove or a landing.
  2. We measure the room, look at the light and note the sockets. Cable routes are planned at this point.
  3. The design is agreed and a written quote follows, with the finish set out.
  4. The office is made at our workshop and painted in your colour.
  5. The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Getting a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check during the design visit.

FAQs: fitted home offices in West Drayton

Do you cover homes near West Drayton station?

Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in West Drayton?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Can you build a home office in an alcove?

It depends on the width and depth of the alcove. Plenty of alcoves suit a small desk, with shelves and storage around it. We measure and give an honest view during the design visit.

How is a home office priced?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. It depends on how much furniture you want, the layout and the finish. To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll arrange a design visit.

How it is made

Birch plywood

Its layered build gives birch plywood its strength. We use it for desk tops, carcasses and drawer boxes, with the edge either shown or painted.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Because it cuts cleanly, MDF suits panels and angled pieces. The grade we use is moisture-resistant and paints well. Most of what you see is MDF.

How we price fitted home offices

What you pay depends on:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The internal fittings
  • The width and height of the space
  • The number of doors and drawers

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Helping us understand the room

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Home working in West Drayton: local notes

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 33% of the housing in the area around West Drayton, with about 25% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. West Drayton is partly covered by the West Drayton Green Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in West Drayton is covered by it. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.

If your children go to West Drayton Academy or a school nearby, a built-in desk can be shared between home working and homework. If you live in a flat close to West Drayton station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Martin, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

West Drayton is about 6 miles north-east of Ruislip, in the London Borough of Hillingdon. From period terraces to newer flats in West Drayton, we measure the room as it is and design around it. In Hillingdon, West Drayton is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 17 places on our list.

Design visits and fitting in UB7 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Streets in the area include Church Road, Station Road and Constabulary Place, and homes on each of them are within our area for fitted home offices. Close by, we also work in Yiewsley (1 mile north), Cowley (2 miles north), Hayes (2 miles east) and Hillingdon (2 miles north). Other parts of Hillingdon we cover include Ruislip (6 miles north-east), Yeading (4 miles north-east), Yiewsley (4 miles north-east), Ruislip Manor (5 miles north-east), South Ruislip (5 miles north-east) and Ruislip Gardens (5 miles north-east).
