Fitted home offices for homes in Hillingdon
Everything in a home office starts with the desk. We make it to a height and depth that suit you, your chair and your screen, with drawers or cupboards beneath where they’re useful. Shelving and cupboards can then be built around it. We’ll go through the details at the design visit in Hillingdon. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a desk in the wrong light and work things on show in the evening.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Hillingdon, a converted loft can be a quiet place to work, with storage tucked under the slope. For lofts, we work in rooms already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, an alcove beside a chimney breast or a bay can take a desk.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

FAQs: fitted home offices in Hillingdon
Is Hillingdon in the area you cover for fitted home offices?
Yes, Hillingdon is within the area we cover, which takes in all of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hillingdon?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Can a home office go in a loft room?
Yes, in a loft that’s already converted. The desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand comfortably, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. We don’t carry out loft conversions.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.
What happens on fitting day
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and your desk set-up is plenty.
- We visit to measure and plan the desk, shelves and storage, and look at where the light falls. New sockets or wiring are a job for your electrician, ideally before fitting.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- We make the desk and storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable holes and routes built in.
- We fit it in your home, scribed and set level, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before we arrive
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
Ask for a quote
We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Advice
What affects the price in Hillingdon
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Examples of the look you are after
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Home working in Hillingdon: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 50% of the housing in the streets around Hillingdon, with about 25% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. There are 8 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hillingdon. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. A quarter or more of the homes in the neighbourhood around Hillingdon (about 25%) were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war rooms are usually regular in shape, so a desk and shelving can run wall to wall.
For a flat near West Drayton station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Norman Leddy Memorial Gardens, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day.
Hillingdon is part of the London Borough of Hillingdon, about 3 miles north-east of Ruislip. Hillingdon is part of the area we cover. Our work takes in places right across the rest of London, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
We cover every part of UB10, UB8, UB9 and HA4. Our area takes in homes on streets such as The Larches, Brampton Road and Clifton Gardens, for fitted home offices and any of our other fitted furniture. Hillingdon is near the B465 and B467; on busy main roads, unloading home offices takes a little planning. We also cover Ickenham (1 mile north), Cowley (2 miles south-west), Yiewsley (2 miles south-west) and Hayes (2 miles south-east). We also make fitted home offices in nearby places like Ruislip (3 miles north-east), Yeading (2 miles east), Yiewsley (2 miles east), West Drayton (2 miles south), Ruislip Manor (3 miles north-east) and South Ruislip (3 miles north-east).
Landmarks near Hillingdon
We fit furniture in homes around Oak Wood School, Highfield Primary School and Red Lion pub, among other places. For rail, the closest station is West Drayton station, about 2.2 miles south-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include The Chimes (1.3 miles north-west) and Hillingdon Hospital (1 mile south-west). For a walk, there’s Gutteridge Wood and Meadows.
Could you do it yourself?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
Why people ask for fitted home offices in Hillingdon
Cables and chargers are a common frustration. Planned routes through the desk keep cables out of sight. Any new sockets are for your electrician, and we design around them.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- No proper place to work from home
- Flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight
- Glare from a window on the screen
- Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
Ickenham Hall, about 1.8 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
What it’s made from
Pull-out drawers
We make the drawer boxes from birch plywood for strength. They’re built for papers, files and kit. The fronts match the rest of the office.
Shelves
Open shelves above a desk keep books in reach. Lower, deeper shelves suit files and a printer. We plan the depths at the design visit.
