Harlington Fitted Home Offices
In Harlington, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. Your home office is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.
- A desk in the wrong light
- A laptop that moves from room to room
- An awkward space with no furniture that fits

Fitted home offices in Harlington
Spare rooms are a natural choice for an office, though many still need space for guests. The office can be planned to leave space for a bed or a sofa, or with doors that close over the desk when you finish work. We’ll look at how the room is used when we visit in Harlington. Typical reasons to get in touch are a desk buried under papers and wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Many homes around Harlington date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. In a flat, the office often shares a room, so a desk that closes away helps. Each piece is made in sections that fit the stairs or lift, then assembled in place.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking near post-war estates can depend on residents’ bays and estate rules, so let us know what applies during the design visit. On the day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch with a few details about the room. A line on how you work helps too.
- At the design visit, we look at the room, the window and your equipment, and plan where the cables will run.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- Your office furniture is built in our workshop, sized for the room.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready for work.

Getting a quote
It is useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

What prompts fitted home offices in Harlington
Many people get in touch because they now work from home, at least part of the week. A kitchen table or a corner of the bedroom soon stops working. A built-in desk and storage make working at home far easier.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- Work things on show in the evening
- Glare from a window on the screen
- An awkward space with no furniture that fits
- Cables trailing across the desk and floor
Near listed buildings like Church of St Peter and St Paul, about 0.5 miles north of the centre of Harlington, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Choosing a carpenter
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
Materials and finishes
Shelves
Shelving over the desk keeps reference books close. Deeper shelves lower down can take a printer or files. We plan the depths at the design visit.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters. It goes into the desk, the shelves and the drawers. The edge can be left on show or painted.
Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf desks and shelving are made for flat walls and standard sizes. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. Bespoke furniture is made to the room and fits it. It’s a bigger investment, and the gain is a workspace that uses the room well. Several standalone pieces of different sizes can make a plain room look busy, while one fitted run looks calm and uses the space better. It is painted in a colour you choose.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.

What it costs
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The overall size of the piece
- Spray painting or hand painting
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.
Helping us understand the room
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Questions we are often asked
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in Harlington?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Harlington?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Do you make good the walls afterwards?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.
Do you fit furniture for landlords?
Yes. The process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, then the furniture is made and fitted. If the property is let, the agent can arrange access with the tenants.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
Each piece is made in our workshop for the room it is going into, then brought to your home and fitted. It’s built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.
