Need wall beds in West Drayton?

FAQs: wall beds in West Drayton

Is West Drayton in the area you cover for wall beds?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London, and West Drayton is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in West Drayton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.

How long does fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the measuring visit.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.

How much does a wall bed cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A single bed cabinet and a full wall with shelves and a desk are very different jobs, so we price it after measuring. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Wall beds in West Drayton: what you get

The mattress has to suit the mechanism; the mechanism maker sets the size, depth and weight it can take. We can go through what the mechanism allows when we measure, so the mattress you choose fits. We make wall beds from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are hiding the bed when it’s not in use and a storage wall with a bed inside.

Post-war bedrooms often have a wide window with a radiator underneath, which leaves the other walls for storage. Many homes around West Drayton were built in the post-war decades, so we expect to plan around a radiator. Nothing is built tight over the radiator, so it keeps heating the room.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.

What wall beds can’t fix

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Strengthening or rebuilding a wall
  • Mattresses, which you choose to suit the mechanism
  • Making good the walls after other work

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Fold-down bed mechanism
  • Shelves or a desk alongside
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish

Fitting day, step by step

At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Post-war homes often have concrete or block walls, so fixings are chosen for the wall on fitting day. Floors and doorways are protected while the sections come in, and the pieces are assembled in the room.

  1. You let us know about the room and who the bed is for.
  2. We visit to measure up and look at what the wall is made of.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready to check.
  4. We build and finish everything in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the cabinet is fitted and the bed checked as it lowers and lifts.

Before fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

How to get a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

Wall beds in West Drayton: local notes

About 33% of the homes in the neighbourhood around West Drayton went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 25% since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of West Drayton include Church of St Martin (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-west, and Drayton Hall (council Offices) (Grade II), less than half a mile north. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 41% of households in the neighbourhood around West Drayton, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

For a family home near West Drayton Academy, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Lake Farm Country Park, keeping wall beds off the window wall keeps the room bright. If you live in a flat close to West Drayton station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

How we price wall beds

Several things affect the price:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How big the furniture is

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What we need to know

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
