About our fitted wardrobes in West Drayton

A fitted wardrobe is built into the room itself, running floor to ceiling and wall to wall. That leaves no gap above to gather dust and no wasted space at the sides. For a bedroom in West Drayton, the first step is a design visit to measure up and go through the design. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are not enough hanging space and no space in front for doors to swing.

Many homes around West Drayton date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. Ceiling heights are often lower than in older homes, and the proportions of fitted wardrobes follow the room. In a block of flats, each piece is made in sections that fit the stairs or lift.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

The usual reason is simple: there isn’t enough storage. Clothes end up on chairs, in boxes under the bed or in another room. Built-in wardrobes make use of the full wall, up to the ceiling.

We are often asked to help with:

  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Not enough hanging space

Living in a block of flats near West Drayton station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

What to check before you book

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

What it costs

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The number of doors and drawers

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.

Getting in touch

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Where you live, with the postcode

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

What it is made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

With no grain to show through, MDF gives a calm painted finish. We use the moisture-resistant grade for fitted wardrobes.

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front as you prefer. Inside drawers keep the front simple.

From workshop to your room

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking near post-war estates can depend on residents’ bays and estate rules, so let us know what applies during the design visit. Fitting day is the sections coming in, being joined and fixed in place. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the bedroom.
  2. We come to measure the room, check the walls and ceiling and agree the layout.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling.

How to prepare

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Arranging a design visit

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Questions we are often asked

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in West Drayton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in West Drayton?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London, and West Drayton is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.

West Drayton homes and fitted wardrobes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around West Drayton were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%) and since 2000 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of West Drayton, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Martin (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-west, and Drayton Hall (council Offices) (Grade II), under half a mile north. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in West Drayton is on or beside a main road, it is useful to mention that at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

If your children go to West Drayton Academy or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Lake Farm Country Park, fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

When is bespoke worth it?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
