About our fitted home offices in South Ruislip

Storage keeps a home office calm. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the desk stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you’re done. For a home in South Ruislip, we design it all around what you need to store. If you’re living with wires with no tidy route and a screen that’s hard to read by the window, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around South Ruislip, a dining room or spare bedroom is often the room that has to double as an office. A built-in desk with doors that close over it lets the room go back to its other job at the end of the day. We plan the cable routes around your sockets.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

What it’s made from

Pull-out drawers

Drawer boxes are made from birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well. They’re built for papers, files and kit. The fronts are painted to match.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting gives a slightly softer look than spraying. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can match the skirting and doors.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.

Advice

What it costs

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking near your home
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Getting in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Where you live, with the postcode

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bespoke furniture lets the desk, shelves and cupboards be planned together. Ready-made pieces bought separately rarely line up. A single design gives the room clean, consistent lines. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.

Common questions about fitted home offices

I live near South Ruislip station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in South Ruislip?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Is it possible to have an office and a guest bed in one room?

Often, yes. The desk, shelving and storage can be designed to leave room for a bed, or with doors that hide the desk away. If space is tight, a wall bed can be built in alongside.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

Getting it in is planned at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
