Honest limits

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room
  • Any work on the structure of the house

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

How we make loft storage for Dagenham Green

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. For a home in Dagenham Green, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. Most enquiries start with clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and wasted space behind the knee walls, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In a family house, the hall and stairs usually carry the most clutter. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around Dagenham Green, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Making use of tricky spaces in Dagenham Green

About 69% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Dagenham Green went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 15% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Barking and Dagenham are set locally. Where a street in Dagenham Green is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it. More than half of the homes in the area around Dagenham Green (about 69%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Loft conversions are common in houses of that age, and the eaves can take fitted storage.

For a flat near Dagenham Dock station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For a family home near Marsh Green Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. The wider area includes historic houses like Rainham Hall, about 1.9 miles east. If your own home is a period one, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

Common questions about loft storage

Do you make loft storage for homes in Dagenham Green?

Yes. Dagenham Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Barking and Dagenham and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do you cover homes near Dagenham Dock station?

Yes. We cover all of Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, message us from the contact page.

Is bespoke worth it?

Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, message us from the contact page.

From workshop to your room

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in

How to get a quote

Advice

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
