Highams Park Loft Storage

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make loft storage for homes in Highams Park, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes
  • A loft room with too many jobs
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves

Questions from Highams Park

I live near Highams Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Waltham Forest and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Highams Park?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Drawers in the knee wall typically involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?

Measuring the route is part of the design visit. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and then assembled in the loft.

How we make loft storage for Highams Park

We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. In Highams Park, it all begins with a design visit. If your home has furniture that can’t get up to the loft and nowhere to store bags and boxes, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

An interwar house typically has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. Around Highams Park, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, it’s worth looking up as well as down. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Where other trades come in

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:

  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
  • Adding or replacing insulation
  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can get in touch through our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish

How fitting works for loft storage

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
  2. At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured.
  3. We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
  4. Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Arranging a design visit

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Advice

Making use of tricky spaces in Highams Park

About 42% of the homes in the streets around Highams Park went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 18% before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Waltham Forest included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Highams Park. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit. About 45% of households in the streets around Highams Park live in terraced houses, the 2021 Census shows. Loft conversions are common in London terraces, leaving eaves and sloping ceilings to use; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.

Close to Lloyd Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For a family home near Selwyn Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

Why bespoke in Highams Park?

If you only need a few boxes in a boarded loft, standalone shelving may be enough. A fitted design earns its place in a loft room you live in. At the design visit, we will tell you honestly which approach suits your loft. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Do you need loft storage in Highams Park?

Most people get in touch because the eaves are going to waste. Behind the knee walls, there is space nobody can reach. Built-in storage makes that space useful.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving

If you live in a flat close to Highams Park station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight

Could you do it yourself?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
