What happens on fitting day

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. It starts with some details from you.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design and finish.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

How to prepare

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Arranging a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Advice

Loft storage for homes in Leaves Green

A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. In Leaves Green, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are no wardrobe that fits under the slope and standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs.

An interwar house typically has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Leaves Green, the landing is worth a look as well as the hall. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

Questions we’re often asked

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Leaves Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hayes (Kent) station?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How is loft storage priced?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, use our contact form and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We will also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.

What affects the price in Leaves Green

What you pay depends on:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • The overall size of the piece

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Before the design visit

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it’s useful to send:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What we do not do

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists
  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can use our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well. It is used for the doors, fronts and side panels, where the finish is most on show.

Birch plywood

Drawers in the knee wall can carry heavy things, from boxes to bedding. That’s why we make drawer boxes from birch plywood. It works well for longer shelves too.

Flats, leases and landlords

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.
