Storage in Stonebridge homes: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Stonebridge were built since 2000 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 28%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Part of Stonebridge is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. Where a home in Stonebridge is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

Living in a block of flats near Harlesden station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live near St. Raphael's Edible Garden, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Stonebridge is within the London Borough of Brent, about 3 miles east of Kilburn. We cover Stonebridge as part of our work across Brent, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Stonebridge is one of the places in Brent where we make loft storage.

Every home in NW10, HA9 and HA0 is covered for loft storage. If your home is on a street such as Wood Road, Park Road and Acton Lane, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for loft storage. About our loft storage in Stonebridge

A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It adds storage without taking up the main floor. We’ll go through the options in Stonebridge. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are space under the eaves going to waste and a converted loft with no fitted furniture.

Floors in newer homes are often finished and easy to mark, so we cover them while we work. Many homes around Stonebridge were built since 2000, and their plasterboard walls need fixings into the studs or made for the board. The storage can sit on its own plinth or be scribed over the skirting.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have stud walls, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work.

  1. It starts when you get in touch with some details about the loft.
  2. We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and go through the design.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
  4. Your storage is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Advice

The problems loft storage solve

Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. The room is there, but the furniture to fit it isn’t. Storage made for the slopes completes it.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage

For families living near The Stonebridge School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

Before you choose who makes it

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • How they handle walls that are not straight
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Questions from Stonebridge

I live in a flat in Stonebridge. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Harlesden station?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

What materials do you use for loft storage?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Typically not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?

Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. We make each piece in sections that fit up the stairs. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often does not get them. Built-in pieces are designed with the right fixings from the start, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

What affects the cost of loft storage

What you pay depends on:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • How big the furniture is
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Before the design visit

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • How you want to use the space
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

To get a quote, get in touch through our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the design visit.
