Loft storage for homes in Seething Wells
The space behind the knee wall typically has insulation and ventilation to think about. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft. When we visit in Seething Wells, we’ll see what’s there. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised and unused space in a dormer.
Homes in an area like Seething Wells can come from many different periods, so the tricky spaces vary too: a bay, the space under the stairs, a hallway recess or the eaves of a converted loft. The furniture is made for the space as it is. Any meters, fuse boards or boilers stay accessible.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Why bespoke in Seething Wells?
In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. A standard unit is the same in every home, whatever the room is like, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. It can be painted in a colour chosen for that room.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.

How fitting day works
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
- At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured, as everything has to get up there.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote.
- Every part is built in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Preparing the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
What affects the price in Seething Wells
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- How square the room is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- The overall size of the piece
- Spray painting or hand painting
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
Getting in touch
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Examples of the look you’re after
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Common questions about loft storage
My home in Seething Wells is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Seething Wells?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
How long does it take to fit loft storage?
How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Because everything is made in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. Hanging goes where there is height, with shelves where it is low. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.
