About our loft storage in Upper Walthamstow
The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Drawers bring the back of the space within reach. We measure and plan for the space you have in Upper Walthamstow. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft with no proper shelving and boxes and suitcases with no home.
Whether your home in Upper Walthamstow is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, there’s usually a space that could work harder. That space can take fitted storage, laid out for what you need to keep. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

How we price loft storage
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The width and height of the space
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It’s useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
What to send when you get in touch
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Where you live, with the postcode
- The type of home and how the room is reached
To make a start, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Tips worth knowing
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
- Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
- Let us know about parking near your home
Don’t pack things so tightly that air can’t move behind the knee wall. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps prevent damp behind the storage.
Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. Keep the room ventilated. It helps the storage stay in good condition.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flats, leases and landlords
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising during the design visit.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage; we build storage once the loft is converted or boarded.
Living in a block of flats near Wood Street station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Peter in the Forest, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. The wider area includes historic houses such as Valentines Mansion, about 2.9 miles east. If your own home is a period one, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.

Questions we are often asked
Is Upper Walthamstow in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. We cover all of Waltham Forest and the rest of London, and Upper Walthamstow is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
Do you cover homes near Wood Street station?
Yes, homes across Waltham Forest and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
How much does loft storage cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Drawers in the knee wall typically involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
Do photos help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift along with the room itself, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
