Upper Walthamstow Walk-in Wardrobes

In Upper Walthamstow, we design walk-in wardrobes around the room you actually have. Your walk-in wardrobe is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.

  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • Somewhere for shoes to live

Walk-in wardrobes in Upper Walthamstow

When is bespoke worth it?

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Walk-in wardrobes in Upper Walthamstow

Many London homes have a small room that is awkward as a bedroom. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. Typical reasons to get in touch are setting aside a corner of a large bedroom and a side each for a couple; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Wherever your home in Upper Walthamstow sits in London’s mix of housing, the furniture starts from your room, not a standard size. External walls can be colder than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation. The inside layout is planned around what you actually store.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Before and after fitting day

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Make sure walls are dry before units go in

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.

A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We make and fit the units inside.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Upper Walthamstow

What you pay depends on:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Before the design visit

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Approximate measurements of the space

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Upper Walthamstow

I live near Wood Street station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Waltham Forest and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Upper Walthamstow?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

How long does fitting take?

Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a quote in writing follows.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Typically not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.

How are walk-in wardrobes priced?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
