Loft storage designed for your room

About our loft storage in South Woodford

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. For a home in South Woodford, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If you are living with unused space in a dormer and wasted space behind the knee walls, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and so do the awkward corners, from bays and stairs to halls and eaves. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Before fitting day, we check the route in not just the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.

How to prepare

What affects the cost of loft storage

There is no set price, because there’s no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Getting in touch

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Check the route up to the loft
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the storage, fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll help.

Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. Keep the room ventilated. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

When is bespoke worth it?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.

FAQs: loft storage in South Woodford

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in South Woodford?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Does a conservation area in or near South Woodford affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

Do you make the furniture yourselves?

Each piece is made at our workshop for the room it is going into, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

What materials do you use for loft storage?

The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
