About our loft storage in Wimbledon Chase
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Wimbledon Chase, it all begins with a design visit. People normally come to us about an empty dormer that could hold shelves and low eaves that nobody can use, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Older homes like many around Wimbledon Chase have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of homes around Wimbledon Chase are that old. Eaves cupboards are scribed to the walls and levelled on site so doors, lids and drawers run true. Original skirting and mouldings are met neatly.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

What loft storage can’t fix
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:
- Approval for structural changes
- Adding or replacing insulation
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
What it’s made from
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
Could you do it yourself?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Fitted storage in Wimbledon Chase
About 47% of the homes in the area around Wimbledon Chase went up before 1919, and about 29% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 14 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Wimbledon Chase. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The share of homes built before 1919 around Wimbledon Chase, about 47%, is well above the figure for Merton as a whole, about 27%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.
Close to Cannon Hill Common? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mary, less than half a mile east of the centre of Wimbledon Chase, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. Southside House, about 1 mile north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.

Pull-out drawers
Pull-out drawers bring the back of the eaves within reach. We size each drawer for what you plan to keep in it. They’re ideal for clothes and bedding.
Moisture-resistant MDF
A loft room can see more change in temperature than other rooms, so a stable material matters. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It forms the doors and panels.
From workshop to your room
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- You get in touch and let us know about your converted or boarded loft, and how you get up to it.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you.
- We send a written quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The cupboards and drawers are made in our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, get in touch through our contact form.

Questions we are often asked
I live near Wimbledon Chase station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Merton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Wimbledon Chase?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
