Loft Storage in Mitcham
Thinking about loft storage in Mitcham? We start with a design visit and a quote in writing, before anything is made.
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
- A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
Need loft storage in Mitcham?
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
Loft storage in Mitcham
Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. The design visit in Mitcham is where we work it out. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are seasonal things cluttering the loft room and unused space in a dormer.
Walls in houses from between the wars are usually straighter than in older ones, but seldom perfect. Much of the housing around Mitcham is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

Common questions about loft storage
Is Mitcham in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, Mitcham is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Merton and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
I live near Mitcham Eastfields station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Merton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?
A good design avoids that. We look behind the knee wall during the design visit and plan the storage so air can still move. We do not alter insulation or vents.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
Pricing loft storage in Mitcham
There’s no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How big the furniture is
- How square the room is
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
What we need to know
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it is useful to send:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.
Fitting day, step by step
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- You tell us about the loft room.
- At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
- We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
- Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.
Before fitting day
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Arranging a design visit
To make a start, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

What we don’t do
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Adding or replacing insulation
- Loft conversions, which we do not carry out
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you. How it works.
What goes into it

- Birch plywood
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Hand-painted finish
- Eaves doors and drawers
Storage in Mitcham homes: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Mitcham were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 49%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 14%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Mitcham include Base of Windmill at Mill House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Prospect House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home in Mitcham is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
For a family home near St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. For an older house near St. Mark's Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Close to Cranmer Green? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

What else we make in Mitcham
Caring for painted furniture
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Think about how you will reach into the eaves
- Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
- Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
- Mention any parking rules on your street
Before we leave, we check every door and drawer with you. Any access to the eaves is checked so it still opens. You’ll know it all works as it should.
Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. A little ventilation helps. That keeps the storage and the paint in good order.
